Southlake Family Medication Refill Policy: The physicians and staff at Southlake Family Medicine are striving to give the safest and best care for our patients. We want to be sure that we are efficient and safe in prescribing and refilling of medications so that we can avoid errors, complications and lapses in the medications that we are providing to you. We feel that certain procedures can help make sure that the above process is effective and safe.
To Request Refills:
We ask that you call your pharmacy at least 72 hours in advance for routine medications. Mail order pharmacies should also be contacted directly and will take at least 2 weeks for prescriptions to be completed.
Calling your pharmacy or mail order service directly provides another way for us to monitor drug interactions and accuracy of the prescription refill. We consider several factors when refilling medications:
• New drug information, less expensive drug options and additional potential drug interactions are revieved with each refill
• Some drugs require periodic office visits or lab testing to assure efficacy and monitor for side effects or to be sure that correct levels are maintained
• Some drugs are safe for relatively short term use but not for long term use and may have potential for addiction or may be habit forming and need to be reviewed
• We try to be sure that the prescribed medication is not going to react with your other medications
• Antibiotics and certain other drugs are not routinely filled because of the need to assess and make good clinical decisions about their use
• Certain drugs are subject to State or Government regulation and are handled differently than uncontrolled medications
Thank You for your consideration of the above policy.
